Winter takes many forms, just as there are many shades of white. It can bring frost and sunshine, blizzards and overcast skies, icy roads and rain, or soft, fluffy snow sparkling in the moonlight.
There is the winter of December—a “true” winter—but the painting depicts a “spring-like” winter: the snow has not yet melted, yet the air has warmed, the sun is about to break through, and the very atmosphere is filled with the scent of spring.
