This painting is about the beginning of spring in Russia. For many people, especially in southern countries, it may still look like winter. There can still be snow on the ground, cold winds, and even an occasional snowfall. Yet something has already changed.
The sun shines brighter and stays longer in the sky. Its warmth is often deceptive—you can feel warm in the sunlight and cold a moment later in the wind. March is a season of transition, balanced between winter and spring.
What I wanted to capture most is the atmosphere of this time of year: the fresh air, the first signs of awakening nature, and that unmistakable feeling that winter is losing its hold. Spring has not arrived yet, but it is already on its way.
